Questions people ask

Which citation style should I use?

Use what your journal, university or supervisor asks for. Medical journals mostly use Vancouver (numbered); psychology and many social sciences use APA; Harvard is common in UK and Australian universities; MLA in the humanities.

How do I write author names?

One author per line, as "Surname, Given names" (e.g. "Sharma, Priya K"). "Priya K Sharma" and PubMed's "Sharma PK" work too.

Can I import a reference instead of typing it?

Yes. Paste a record exported from PubMed (NBIB), Zotero, Mendeley or EndNote (RIS) or Google Scholar (BibTeX) and the form fills in.

Do I still need to check the reference?

Yes. Styles have rules this tool can't know about your source, such as capitalisation of titles in APA (sentence case). Check the result against your style guide before submitting.
